The Josh Sacco Story

In January of 2009, at the age of 4½ Josh sat down with his Dad to enjoy the movie “Miracle.”  Having skated since he was 2½ Dad felt it was a good time to show his son what he had experienced back in 1980 as a 13 yr. old growing up in Massachusetts. Upon finishing the movie Josh had 2 comments/questions... (Read the Rest of the Story)

The Rest of the Story

As any young kid does he latched onto the movie and watched it over and over until one day (right around Easter in March) in our bedroom as he was shooting tennis balls into a net set up there (Yes, in our bedroom and apologies to Mom) he began to shout out the name of the 26 guys who made the original cut in the movie. IN ORDER. I was amazed he had them in order and recited every name so I started saying lines from the movie I remembered. He immediately blurted back the scenes, in character, with proper Minnesota or Massachusetts accent, and Actually Corrected me when I messed up a line. From there I started the famous speech and he took over and simply put amazed me!! His Easter outfit from his grandmother happened to be Tan (just like Coach Herb’s) so after being besieged with requests with filmed him. As you can tell we are Amateurs! Family and friends in Massachusetts and Vermont wanted a copy and luckily a great friend of ours Tony V. is a computer guy and put it on YouTube so we did not have to make fifteen DVDs to send north. The rest is history.

We began to get emails from people thanking Josh for brightening their day, for giving them hope as we were similarly in a bad economic situation, etc. He then went and filmed for his hometown Nashville Predators. We then heard from Ellen DeGeneres and he appeared on her show. She graciously sent us to the Olympics’ in Vancouver where he was fortunate enough to have dinner and speak (as a motivational speaker LOL) to the US Men’s’ hockey team the night before they defeated Canada. The Nashville Predators asked Josh to be the Predators correspondent at the Olympics and report back daily on his experience. (Thanks Nashville. Josh loves you.  Special thanks to Mr. and Mrs. Poile). Before the Olympics he was invited up to Minnesota by the Wild and became the youngest person to do the Let’s Play Hockey call there.  We love the Wild and thank them for all they continue to do for Josh. In Minnesota, he was fortunate to meet Herb brook’s family and actually wear Herb’s gold medal from the 1980 Olympics. They are truly exceptional people and thanks and love to Miss Patti, Miss Kelly, Mr. Dan and Lucia (the rest of your family too Dan!!), Mr. Marc Olivia, Tommy and Joe! You guys Rock and we are grateful for the friendship you give us.

From there the rest is history, from opening the MLB season on Easter Sunday 2010 at Fenway Park, Red Sox vs. Yankees, to appearing at numerous NHL arenas, to ESPN, to the CBS Evening News, to the Frozen Four back in Minnesota in 2011.

Josh has amassed quite a resume before the age of 7 and is a loving, positive, and wonderful young man befitting of the nickname “Rizzo” after Captain Mike Eruzione from the 1980 Team.  He also wears #21 in his honor!!
